Spotted Again: Leopard Print’s Bold Re-return to Fashion

By Sienna Peck

If you are looking for a timeless pattern going into the fall season, let’s catch you up to speed! Leopard print has been born again, and there is no stopping the ways in which it can be used.

The exotic and confident personality of leopard print is something that many people look for when picking a going-out outfit or even a new pajama set. From phone cases to Adidas Samba sneakers, the eye-catching print is a chic way to take an outfit from “cute” to “phenomenal.”

Yes, leopard print has been huge lately, but has it ever gone out of style? Leopard print has been a part of fashion since ancient Egyptian times when Seshat, the goddess of wisdom, was known for dressing in the print as a sign of high class and elegance.

Years later, Christian Dior made history as the first designer to include the print in a runway show. He also added it to his collection in 1947 named “New Look.” This collection introduced a new excitement to the style, making the pattern feel bold, feminine, and powerful. Many big names of the 1990s-2000s also became attracted to the loved print and made it an essential wardrobe staple. It can be seen on Christina Aguilera at the 1999 MTV Awards, Jennifer Aniston at a movie premiere, and Princess Diana rocking a printed swimsuit on the beach. The style icons of the 1990s-2000s had a love for leopard print, just like many today.

In the fashion world now, it is easy to say that self-expression helps us decide what to wear. Leopard print is the perfect example of how to elevate a simple look instantly. With the brown, black, white and tan color palette, the pattern makes it effortless to match any outfit, while still adding a bold element. Whether it is a leopard print tank top with some oversized jeans and white sneakers or a simple dress paired with a small leopard print purse, the options never end.

Another interesting way to put the print to use is through a Halloween costume.

Find any short black skirt, leopard print tank top, tall black boots, a leopard ear headband and some cat-like make-up to finish the look, and you’ll have the cutest leopard costume. You could also have your bestie dress as a tiger so you can go as a wild duo!

If you’re looking for a funnier take on the trend, grab your boyfriend and go as a leopard with him as a safari guide. Start planning your costume at least a month in advance—this is your sign!

Pounce on this sophisticated and elevated trend as love for it grows. We have seen multiple centuries of its popularity and the statements it has made over time. Not only is it easy to style, but it adds character to basic outfits that will guarantee you’ll be asked, “O.M.G where did you get that?” From streetwear to a Halloween party, leopard print seems to be going nowhere any time soon.
